Medical Assistant Job Seach

Job-Search-Know-How What?

Well, before you jump right into the medical assisting field you should research and know a number of important things, such as: how to pick the better schools, how to locate funding sources for your training, how to prepare for medical assistant final exams, how to register for national certification exams, how to land the better jobs, and then, keep them.

Better Jobs

Which raises the question: what are the better jobs? And that depends! Experts agree that the better jobs aren't always those that pay the highest wages. Wages will generally only improve ever so slightly over time. The better "deal" often are jobs that also offer outstanding benefits, a positive work environment, and foster professional growth. These better jobs are more frequently found at specialty medicine centers, larger group practices, and regional hospitals, and medical centers. While they may pay medical assistants an average of just $12 - $15 per hour, they offer outstanding employee benefits and programs that are nothing to sneeze at.

A Typical Job Announcement Example:

XYZ Medical Center has exciting opportunities for Certified Medical Assistants in this area. Ideal candidates will be energetic, team oriented, and possess good clinical and communication skills.  We offer competitive compensation, outstanding benefits, and positive work environments.

   Things to consider:

  • medical assistants are in high demand everywhere, especially in New York, NYC, and New Jersey
  • employers in South Florida, and Southern Texas often want bilingual (english-spanish speaking) medical assistants
  • California wants medical assistants to be certified, particularly in phlebotomy
  • employers expect proof of CPR training and health care personnel related vaccinations
  • pay can be dramatically affected by facility size, employee credentials, and years of experience in the field

Experienced medical assistants spot mistakes or inconsistencies in a patient's medical chart and records and report them to the physician to correct the information. Their ability to understand medical terminology, basic procedures, and basic pharmaclolgy and treatments helps to reduce the chance of errors, or even harmful treatments, and to ensure high-quality patient care. If a working medical assistant is struggling and frustrated because of low pay then there still may be a way to increase wages without increasing hours.
